![]() Blessed (?) with the ability to cast spells, mix potions, fortell the future and alter fate-at least within the limits set down by the High Council of Wizards-Harry put his talents to practical use by investigating crime cases involving the paranormal, for a fee of 500 bucks a day plus expenses for those who could afford his services, but occasionally working gratis for needy souls who'd been caught in the crossfire of the Black Arts. Put simply, Harry was a genuine, bona-fide wizard-indeed, the only wizard who advertised in the Yellow Pages. This incarnation of The Invisible Man lasted two seasons and 46 episodes, which were still being rerun on Sci-Fi nearly five years after its official cancellation.īased on a series of novels by Jim Butcher, the weekly, hour-long Sci Fi Channel series The Dresden Files starred former 24 regular Paul Blackthorne as Harry Dresden, a Chicago-based private eye with a unique gift. Also in the cast were Darien's boss Charles Bowden, aka The Official (Eddie Jones) his unkempt, highly neurotic partner Bobby Howes (Paul Ben-Victor) sharpely scientist Claire Keeply, aka The Keeper (Shannon Kenny), who regularly supplied Darien with the short-term antidote that prevented him from going insane Michael McCafferty as bumptuous bureaucrat Albert Eberts, who regularly shifted sponsorship of the Agency from one regulatory department to another to keep it solvent and beginning in Season Two, obstreperous government operative Alex Monroe (Brandy Ledford), who took charge of both Darien and the Agency principally to locate her long-missing son. A shadowy government agency called simply The Agency agreed to keep Darien supplied with antidote injections provided that he render certain special services, using his ability to disappear and reappear on behalf of Uncle Sam. Whenever he was frightened, the gland would secret a special quicksilver mixture that would render him (what else?) invisible: Unfortunately, there was always the possibility that Darien would be overcome by "Quicksilver Madness" unless he was supplied with a temporary antidote. Unfortunately, in mid-experiment Kevin was killed by terrorists, leaving Darien with an invisibility gland permanently imbedded in his neck. This time the principal character was career criminal and con artist Darien Fawkes (Vincent Ventresca), who to avoid life imprisonment agreed to participate in an experiment conducted by his scientist brother David (Kevin Burke). Wells-and like its predecessors, it paid only lip service to fidelity to its source. Jecoupĭebuting Jon cable's Sci-Fi Channel, the weekly, hour-long The Invisible Man was the third TV series based upon the same-named book by H.G. But the show is just so good, so I really hope more people will discover it eventually. Now that the show has enough episodes for syndication, do you think The Middle has a chance to grow even more in the ratings? The current ratings are fine and actually lives to up its title, as it's right smack in the middle of the ratings race, not a blockbuster but a self-starter that does solid numbers. I'm happy this show lasted this long and will reach 100 episodes by next season. Strong words that captured a lot from the joys of reading to getting to know the struggles of a kid who's socially inept. Frankie and Mike's 20th anniversary was another terrific episode, and I want to give kudos to Atticus Shaffer's performance when Brick told Axl why books are so important. I'm not American, but I can so relate to the Heck family, and they really hit it right out of the park with the family dynamics. Question: I appreciate how you are one of the few critics who recognizes how good a family sitcom The Middle is. ![]() Send questions and comments to and follow me on Twitter!
